Easy Skillet Heart Egg Toast
We’re taking the classic breakfast of eggs and toast and turning it into a fun Valentine’s Day breakfast! You can really make this anytime you want to spread a little extra love.
The bread is toasted in the skillet, then the eggs are cooked next. You can make a big batch all at once using a large skillet.
Our Humane Harvest eggs come from hens raised in free-roaming environments and fed a pure vegetarian diet consisting of premium grains, seeds, and meal.
Try This Variation
If you love egg-in-a-hole, make a heart-shaped version! Use the large heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the bread, then use the small heart-shaped cookie cutter to make a smaller heart in the center.
Heat a skillet, add butter, and toast the heart-shaped bread. Crack the egg into the center heart and cook until the egg whites are mostly set. Flip and cook for 1-2 more minutes on the second side.
What You Need to Make Heart Eggs and Toast
-
Sourdough bread (or bread of choice)
-
Butter
-
Salt
-
Heart-shaped cookie cutters in 2 sizes
You can make as many as you’d like—just adjust the eggs and bread accordingly!
How to Prep and Make This Recipe
-
Using the larger-sized heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut the bread into a heart shape.
-
Heat a skillet to medium heat and add a little butter. Toast the bread on both sides and remove it from the skillet. Using the back of a spoon, gently press the center of the bread down where the egg will sit to create a small divot.
-
Lower the heat to medium-low and add a little butter. Crack the egg into the pan and sprinkle it with a pinch of salt. Cook the egg sunny side up (without flipping) to keep the yolk bright and intact. Cover the pan with a lid to cook the egg white more quickly.
-
Remove the egg from the pan and slide it onto a cutting board. Use the smaller heart-shaped cutter to cut the egg into a heart shape, then slide it onto the heart toast.
-
Serve as is, or with hot sauce and minced chives. Repeat to make as many as you’d like!
How to Store Leftovers
These heart egg toasts can be made in advance and stored in the fridge. Once cooled, add them to an airtight container. They will keep well for up to 5 days in the fridge. Reheat in a warm oven or microwave.
